MENSTRUAL HYGIENE
The activity was implemented in the three(3) districts of Kapchorwa, Kween and Bukwo which are from the Sebei sub region targeting 300 girls from sponsorship communities and non-sponsorship communities. It was aimed at equipping girls with life skills to navigate stage of adolescence and supported them (adolescent girls) with dignity kits to build their esteem to challenge any rights violations especially child marriage and teenage pregnancies that robs them of their dignity.
Participants were mobilized from the three districts especially the project areas of Action Aid Uganda for example in Kapchorwa sub-counties with sponsored children (Kapteret, Mokoyo, Tuban, Tegeres and Kaplelko), Kween district and sub-counties with sponsored children (Kitawoi, Kaptoyoy, Kapkoch, Kitany, Benet, Tukumo, Kapteng, Likil, Kwosir, Chemanga, Tuikat, Tambajja, Toswo and Chepayakaniet) and in Bukwo District the sub-counties with sponsored children including; Tulel, Kamet, Kabei, Brim and Kortek).
Presentations, plenary discussions and question/answer sessions were used as a mode of delivery to enable girls and parents to contribute to the discussion, girls/parents coached and mentored to create safe spaces and environments for their girls/daughters to thrive in the ever challenging environment with the aim of dismantling biases surrounding menstruation, menstrual hygiene management and gender stereotypes, promoting gender equality in all aspects of life, and ensuring that girls have the same opportunities and rights as boys when it comes to education opportunities, work at home and abilities of girls to challenge men and boys to ensure they complete all rounds of education.
OBJECTIVES
- To empower adolescent girls to advocate for access to public services and retention of girls in education, employment, livelihood, and fulfilment of their rights through dignified management of menstrual hygiene.
- To support 300 adolescent girls with dignity kits to facilitate them build their esteem, MHM, and freedom from violence.
- To create awareness on menstrual hygiene management for parents to appreciate that their daughters need dignified management of menstrual hygiene and equally build consensus towards keeping girls in school with special focus on ending child marriage and teenage pregnancy.
