Sebei Women through their Women Groups reap big with Sabiny Transformation Initiative’s Women Economic Empowerment.
Tecla Chemwetich aged 50 years and a mother of 6 from Reberwo Village, Toswo Parish, Kaptoyoy Sub-county, Kween District couldn’t hold back her tears of joy as she narrated her ordeal of extreme poverty and hardships before they formed their Reberwo Women’s Group whose intention was to get its members empowered to a capacity of economic strength and independence. “Sabiny Transformation Initiative came up and shared great knowledge with us like against Gender Based Violence, Parent – Child fights over Land, Marriage and even Circumcision / Mutilation, positive parenting and preventing early child marriages. They called for mutual respect and taught us how to save money and resources through the Village Savings and Loans Approach.” Narrates Tecla.
“Sabiny Transformation Initiative availed each of our groups with Cash up to 500,000 UGX that`s to say; Reberwo Women’s Group with 22 members, Kapchemiryot Young Women’s Group with 60 members, Ngoryomwo Women’s Group with 20 members and Kapchemiryot Upper Women’s Group. We utilized the economic knowledge STI had shared with us to wisely invest, maintain returns, and actually save the benefits as we reinvested the capital.” Our daughters assuredly will complete all rounds of education.
Reberwo Women’s Group has managed to save up 2,400,000 UGX, Kapchemiryot Young Women’s Group has saved up to 2,000,000 UGX and Ngoryomwo Women’s Group has saved up to1,900,000 UGX all through several activities. “STI saved us from much pain and hard livelihoods” says Jaisha Chebet who continued to ask STI to keep this up such that (Female Genital Mutilation) FGM, Early Child marriages can be put to an end through Action Against FGM Agents. Through reducing poverty among the FGM agents the practice may be put to and end because they carry it out to get survival”. Much appreciation to the Girls First Fund for supporting communities through Sabiny Transformation Initiative.
