
Anti-Corruption Marathon
Lead Anti-Corruption Stakeholders Regional Marathon and Dialogue to mobilize Citizens to rally against corruption during the anti-corruption week- 2023
The activity was implemented drawing participation of the leaders, communities and young people from the three 3 districts of Sebei sub region i.e., Kapchorwa, Bukwo and Kween. It targeted 14 youth from Kapchorwa, 14 youth from Kween and 80 community members, district executive committee members, CSO’s and 8 duty bearers per district with the aim of Dialoguing to rally against corruption during the anticorruption week.
Participants were mobilized from including districts especially the young people and communities from project areas of ActionAid Uganda for example in Kapchorwa sub-counties with sponsored children, Kween district and its sub-counties with sponsored children and Bukwo District as well as its sub-counties with sponsored children.
Speeches from stakeholders, dramas, marathons for children, young people and elite athletes that`s to say (3km, 5km, 10 km and 21 km men and women) and individual community submissions on glaring corruption issues were used as a mode of delivery to enable young people and communities to discuss and rise issues related to corruption in their districts without our influence and the duty bearers responded to the glaring issues by making commitments to address them.
Specific objectives of the Marathon
- To raise the awareness of the masses on corruption and
- To mobilize citizens to actively participate in the fight against corruption and
- Engage in re-awakening the government to fulfil its mandate in combating the vice.
- To empower youth to advocate for creation of a supportive socio-cultural, economic, and political environment that will empower them to be partners in development.
- To identify and understand youth challenges in agriculture.
Outcome
- The communities engaged with their leaders with the aim of creating spaces, analyzing, and utilizing information, to demand and hold leaders accountable and consequently improving service delivery outcomes especially by exposing corruption tendencies
- STI with support from Action Aid created both physical and virtual platforms to discuss issues of communities and propose solutions together hence increasing their participation in the development process, their human rights fulfilled and the fight against corruption .
