From Vulnerability to Self-Reliance: Three Youths with Disabilities Rewrite Their Future
Sabiny Transformation Initiative Success Story
For three determined youths living with disabilities, what once seemed like a distant dream has become a powerful reality—thanks to the unwavering support of Sabiny Transformation Initiative (STI), in partnership with Building Effective Networks Multi Annual Programs & Plans and Liliane Fonds.
In July 2025, the trio (Sawad, Wakil and Taiban) embarked on a life-changing journey when they were enrolled at Bajaj clinic in Kapchorwa for hands-on training in motorcycle repair and maintenance.
At the time, they faced not only physical limitations but also limited access to skills development opportunities—barriers that often hinder many youths with disabilities from achieving economic independence.

However, their story quickly became one of resilience and transformation.Over months of intensive practical training, the three youths demonstrated remarkable commitment, discipline, and a willingness to learn.
Despite the challenges they encountered along the way, they steadily built confidence and technical competence in handling motorcycle engines, diagnosing mechanical issues, and conducting repairs. Their dedication did not go unnoticed.
Upon completing the training, the lead instructor at the Bajaj clinic made an extraordinary decision to retain all three as part of the workshop team. This rare opportunity not only affirmed their capabilities but also marked the beginning of their journey into sustainable livelihoods.

To further empower them, Priscilla Kusuro, STI’s Executive Director presided over a symbolic and impactful handover of motorcycle toolboxes. The toolboxes, provided upon completion of their training, were more than just equipment—they represented independence, dignity, and a future filled with possibilities.
Speaking during the handover, Priscilla emphasized their commitment to ensuring that no young person is left behind, regardless of their physical condition. She noted that equipping the youths with both skills and tools was key to enabling them to thrive in their communities.
Today, these three youths stand as a testament to what is possible when opportunity meets determination. They are no longer defined by their disabilities, but by their skills, resilience, and ability to contribute meaningfully to society.

Their journey is not just a personal success; it is a powerful reminder that inclusive empowerment can transform lives and build stronger, more equitable communities.
