Sabiny Transformation Initiative Donates Sewing Machines to Teenage Mothers in Kween District
At least 11 teenage mothers in Kween district have received sewing machines in a bid to equip them with practical skills and improve their livelihoods. The beneficiaries, mainly young women, are survivors of teenage pregnancy, early marriage, groups that often face limited economic opportunities within their communities.
The donation from Sabiny Transformation Initiative (STI) in partnership with Girls First Fund valued at UGX 10 million, included 11 sewing machines in addition to a fully facilitated training for the teenage mothers.

According to STI’s Project Coordinator, Festo Majinjach, the training will be conducted by the first cohort of beneficiaries who successfully completed the program, creating a cycle of mentorship and peer support.
He added that the initiative aims to empower vulnerable youth with hands-on vocational skills, enabling them to become self-reliant and improve their household incomes.
“We are doing this to support girls who are survivors of teenage pregnancy to acquire life skills that can help them recover from the shock of teenage pregnancy but also manage and support the child they got as a result of limited knowledge, he said with a focus on adolescent sexual reproductive health rights.

During the handover ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sabiny Transformation Initiative, Priscilla Kusuro, expressed pride and optimism as she addressed the beneficiaries. She noted that the donation of the sewing machines symbolized more than just material support, describing it as “a pathway to self-reliance and renewed hope for the young mothers noting that such programs are key to addressing unemployment, reducing dependency, and restoring hope among marginalized groups” she said.

She reaffirmed STI’s commitment to continuous support, mentorship, and empowerment beyond the handover. She concluded with appreciating their strategic partner, Girl’s First Fund, the first funding partnership focused on ending child marriage with grant making directed to community-based and locally-focused national organizations.
